The Audition

Have you ever thought that it was your time to shine? The St. John's drama department presents an original play production, the Audition. The Audition was directed, produced, and written by the head of the drama department, Karen Flores. Initially, Ms. Flores had thought about writing something more dramatic this year. One of her students, who auditioned for a play outside of St. John's School, did not have a happy experience, and this sparked the idea of the play. The Audition illustrates a rundown variety show that loses its only star of the show, Darcy Alexander, and the Royale variety show must showcase auditions to find a replacement for Darcy Alexander.

Credits to Ms. Karen Flores  for writing, producing, and directing an outstanding and interesting play.

"I think the reason the play was so successful was because it had a little of everything in it. It had music, dance, well developed characters, and plot twists. I always stress to my students the importance of each character is having their own story as well as the story itself. It kept the audience intrigued."

They're back in the show!

Incorporating the alumni was not intentional at the beginning stages of the  play. However, as the date of the performance approaches closer and closer, six students decided to bail out of the show. At first Ms. Flores was devastated and about to cancel the show, but a "brilliant idea only by accident" sparked. Four graduated SJS drama students joined the team, and with a wonderful collaboration between the students and the alumni; an amazing performance was showcased to the audience.

After all, the show must go on!
