St. John’s Episcopal School is looking for a new Head of School for July 2023. This is an opportunity to lead a community of exceptional teachers and students in a multi-cultural environment.

St. John’s is a coeducational day school with 546 students in grades K3 through 12. The school offers the highest quality in academics, fine arts, athletics, and extracurricular programs to achieve its mission.

- Upgrade the current physical plant.
Responsibilities
As the chief officer of the school, the Head of School pursues the vision and executes the stated mission of the school, manages faculty and staff, and ensures the financial health of the institution.
- Works in partnership with the Board of Trustees to manifest and refine the school’s mission and strategic future and embodies and represents the mission of the school with all constituencies.
- Carries out and reviews established school policies with the Board of Trustees, keeping them informed on all aspects of the school’s operation.
- Provides leadership in shaping the school’s programs.
- Has direct supervision over and responsibly provides direction to administration and faculty to ensure that school policies are followed.
- Is responsible for attracting, selecting, hiring, retaining, developing, and evaluating properly qualified faculty and staff, as well as terminating personnel when needed.
- Supervises the financial management and maintenance of the physical plant.
- Guides strategic planning, and fund-raising efforts of the school.
- Maintains and participates in school culture and quality of life; provides a safe environment for learning.
- Ensures that every element of school life reflects the principles of equity, justice, and the dignity of each individual.
- Understands education trends and the local and regional education landscape.
- Communicates effectively with all constituencies, including students, faculty and staff, parents, and alumni.
- Represents with integrity his or her role within the broader network of schools and the community, which could include public appearances.
- Abides by principles of good practice in all school operations – particularly admission, marketing, faculty recruitment, and fund-raising.
- Preparation for, response to, and recovery from natural disasters.
- Maintains accreditation status.
Common Qualification Requirements
- A master’s or doctorate degree preferred
- Proven success in a senior administrative role
- Proven success in fundraising
- Successful teaching experience and demonstrated leadership qualities
- Commitment to academic goals of students and the mission and philosophy of the school
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Preferably of Episcopal faith
- Emotional intelligence
- The ability to get along with coworkers and other school community members.
