Dear Parents of Knights:
Choosing optimism, I still have high hopes for 2022. As we face this new surge of COVID cases, and look forward to seeing our students back on campus on Monday, I must reiterate that our safety protocols are the very things that will keep our students and school personnel safe. It is more important than ever that we don’t get careless!
The only thing more important to schools than quality instruction is student safety. During this time that we will all remember as the “COVID Years” this fact has remained clear, and we have enforced strict guidelines to keep safety at the forefront. There have been sacrifices—from no parents on campus to lost proms and online chapels—many of our traditions have been put aside.
What hasn’t changed has been the dedication of our professional educators to make sure every student receives the instruction and support they need to learn. In fact, much of the stress that teachers have experienced has come from striving to make learning excellent in every unprecedented situation that has arisen.
The diversity that we speak of in Episcopal schools isn’t just ethnic, or economic. It is also a diversity of politics, of philosophies, of beliefs. It is where our thoughts overlap that we find our strength. It is in those unshakeable goals of student safety and quality education that we all share.
I implore you to pay careful attention to your family’s health. Monitor closely for any symptoms of illness, and keep kids at home at the slightest sign of distress—any symptoms at all. If you know your family has been exposed to the virus, please notify the school at once and follow the DPHSS guidelines for quarantine and testing. If you feel you need to isolate and monitor for symptoms, after travel or at any time, please notify your child’s teacher to request temporary online “attendance”.
Our teachers will double down on teaching and enforcing the rules for proper mask wearing, personal distancing, and sanitation.
No, we didn’t want 2022 to look like this. But we know what to do and we will do it—together.
Sincerely,
Pat
