Applying to St. John's
St. John’s is a college preparatory school with a selective admission procedure. Students who are candidates for admission are expected to have demonstrated success in their earlier educational endeavors, score well on our admissions examination, and demonstrate a high degree of motivation to continue their academic development. Each application is considered individually and admission is determined on the individual’s abilities and motivation.
Factors Considered in St. John’s Admissions Decisions It is essential to both the student and St. John’s that there be a reasonable match between the student’s abilities and the school’s programs and environment. With this in mind, the following applicant factors are carefully considered in an admissions and placement decision:

Required Admissions Documentation
A completed application, with all supporting documents, is required before an applicant is considered for admission. In some cases, follow-up discussions with parents, present or past teacher or school administrators/counselors may be conducted in order to determine an accurate assessment of an applicant’s credentials. Applications will not be considered for decisions until all required forms and supporting documents have been received by the Admissions Office. It is the responsibility of the applicant’s family to ensure that all documents have been received.

Admissions Decisions
Admissions decisions for August enrollments are made from February through July of the preceding academic year. For enrollment during an academic year, decisions are made once an application is complete and are based on space availability and requirements for admission. Following an admissions review of an application (and interview and/or testing, if applicable), applicants are informed of their status via written notification in one of the following four categories:

Following an admissions review of an application (and interview and/or testing, if applicable), applicants are informed of their status via written notification in one of the following four categories:
Accepted: The applicant is accepted for admission to St. John’s and a space is reserved for him/her in a particular grade level. Along with a formal letter of acceptance, families will receive a Confirmation of Enrollment and form to complete in or order to hold the space offered.
Denied: The applicant does not meet St. John’s eligibility and requirements for admission. Each year some applicants are denied admission...
Provisional: Deferrals are given when, in judgment of admissions personnel, a fair and accurate decision on the qualifications of the applicant cannot be reached without an on-site interview. In the case of applicants with special needs, a deferral will be made until St. John’s testing/screening can be conducted.
Waiting List: If an applicant meets St. John’s admission requirements but is applying for enrollment in a grade level that is full, that applicant will be placed in the wait pool for his/her grade level for that particular school year. Parents of wait-pooled candidates will receive written notification regarding the likelihood of admission during that school year. Because of the school’s priority system, a student’s position in the wait-pool may change if there are subsequent applicants from families with higher priority, based on the factors considered or an admission decision. |
Admissions Deadlines
New students are admitted to all grade levels on the basis of the completed application form, results of school administered testing, the previous school record, and recommendations from teachers or counselors. Although applications for fall admission should be completed by April 30, applications are accepted throughout the year and new students are admitted as long as vacancies exist.
