TECHNOLOGY
St. John's students navigate digital landscapes on a daily basis. We believe the use of technology is an integral part in the development of 21st century learners and a necessary skill for the future; therefore, our aim is to use technological resources and devices to complement both learning and instruction. |
The rapid growth of technology necessitates that students are capable users and creators of digital media. Beginning in the primary years, St. John's students are using computers and other devices. Lower School students enjoy weekly computer classes where they begin to work with various applications, learn research skills and explore other areas, such as coding. Middle and Upper school students routinely use online resources to enhance their learning and complete assignments. Technology courses for these students include Coding, Digital Design, and Robotics. More importantly, technology supports our instruction in all subject areas and at each grade level.
As part of this, our students and faculty use Google Apps for Education to create, collaborate and communicate. Digital tools, such as Google Classroom, provide an enriched blending of traditional and modern learning that is required in today’s classroom and prepares students with the productivity and cooperative work skills needed for the future. Google Apps for Education accounts are created and managed at St. John’s school for students in grades 3-12 with restrictions to ensure security and privacy. As students navigate through online environments, it is important their ethics are developed as well. Digital citizenship is promoted throughout the school through our policies and by our actions. Digital citizens recognize the enormous potential a productive, online environment has in advancing ideas, understanding, and expression for the good of all. AOS

St. John’s School employs a variety of technology devices to support its educational mission and operational duties. Each classroom is equipped with a projector, printer and several iMac computers. Upper school students are encouraged to bring their personal devices (BYOD), while several laptop and iPad carts are available for classroom use in the Lower and Middle schools. Recent improvements were made to enhance the speed, reliability, and security of our network. WiFi access is now provided throughout the campus via a dedicated fiber network from Docomo Pacific.
