ST. JOHN’S STUDENTS ATTEND 32ND NATIONAL JAPAN BOWLSt. John’s students showcased their skills at the 32nd National Japan Bowl held on April 18 and 19, 2024, hosted at the University of Maryland. 2024 ST. JOHN’S SCHOOL THOMAS PEARSON MATH SCHOLARSHIP WINNERS ANNOUNCEDSt. John’s School would like to congratulate the recipients of the 2024 Thomas Pearson Mathematics Scholarship. This esteemed scholarship, established by donor Thomas Pearson, is bestowed upon one student per grade level, spanning from 6th to 11th grade for the academic year 2023-2024. Mr. Pearson, a dedicated mathematics educator at St. John’s School from 1994 until his retirement in 2021, personally selected the scholarship recipients.

SJS HIGH SCHOOL SOPHOMORE EXCELS IN ALLIANCE FOR YOUNG ARTISTS & WRITERS10th grader, Yelin Byeon’s artwork has been acknowledged by The Alliance for Young Artists & Writers, receiving recognition for its exceptional originality, skill, and unique artistic identity. Her piece titled “Picturesque Peach” was granted an Honorable Mention, while her other piece “Roots of the Spirits” earned the Silver Key Award and was further selected for inclusion in the UOG Press Youth Publication project. Congratulations to Yelin on these remarkable accomplishments!

HONOR SOCIETIES INDUCTION CEREMONY 2024On Friday, April 12, St. John’s middle and upper school students were inducted into prestigious honor societies including the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS), National Honor Society (NHS), and Tri-M Music Honor Society at the Episcopal Church of St. John the Divine. Membership in these societies is based on a high scholastic average along with demonstrated citizenship, leadership, character, and service. Additionally, Tri-M Music Honor Society inductees must actively participate in a school-sponsored musical ensemble.

JOHN’S STUDENT TAKES 1ST PLACE IN ENDANGERED SPECIES HIGH SCHOOL ART CONTESTDuring the 15th University of Guam Island Sustainability Conference that was held on April 10, 2024, a collaborative effort of the Micronesia Challenge and the University of Guam Sea Grant (UOG SG) hosted an Endangered Species High School Art Contest. We’re thrilled to announce that YiYing Jennifer Chen-Davis, a 10th grader from our school, claimed 1st place with her piece titled “Bat and Friends.”

JOHN’S ACHIEVES SECOND PLACE IN DYA ORATORICAL CONTESTWe are proud to announce that Su Jin Oh, a talented 9th-grade student from our school, has achieved second place in the DYA Oratorical contest, with Frederika Herman serving as an alternate. The contest took place at the Guam Congress Building in Hagatna on April 3, 2024. The event required participants to deliver three to five-minute speeches focused on this year’s Youth Month theme: “Breaking Boundaries, Building Bridges: The Power of Diversity.”
