2019 Paddling Season
As the 2019 paddling season approaches its end, SJS paddlers enjoy their remaining time on the water during the season. Teams from 11 schools on Guam have welcomed new paddlers throughout the season, befriended with paddlers from other schools, and paddled as a team across the finish line. On Saturday mornings, paddlers, coaches, officials, and supporters gather together at the Matapang Beach in Tumon for a competitive paddling race. Come down to Matapang Beach and support the SJS paddling team!

What are some tips for paddling?
Work hard at practices and don't be afraid to talk to people from other schools. This is your chance to meet new people. Wear sunscreen and always bring a hat to practices. Ultimately, have fun, be respectful, and stay humble. Why did you join paddling?I joined paddling because I’ve always enjoyed going to the beach and since I joined paddling, I was able to go to the beach with my friends. I also wanted to experience this new sport because when I first came to St. John’s this was the first time I’ve ever heard of paddling. What do you think brought paddling into SJS as a sport?Paddling was started during my freshman year by an upperclassmen and our girls basketball team and a few others decided to become a part of this new sport :) from there the team kept growing and we kept placing. I think the competitiveness that is prevalent at SJS helped the sport continue. |
