Parent Letters
July 28, 2022
Dear Parents: We are eagerly preparing for the return of our students for School Year 22-23. Yesterday we sent you the plan for Open House and orientation half-days. Teachers will be back on board on Monday, August 8, planning and preparing for the new semester. As you finalize your own preparations, please refer to our website for detailed expectations. The student and parent handbook can be found under Contact, then under Forms and Downloads. And, of course, if you don’t find the information you need, email or call me with your questions. In alignment with the Governor’s recent message, we are encouraging, not mandating, the use of face masks indoors. We expect you to let your children know what you want them to do regarding masks. The only requirement from the school will be that individual teachers shall have the authority to require masks in their classrooms. They will also be provided with extra masks as needed. I am sure that you will understand this exception. Teachers, whose concerns may extend to fragile family members, spend their entire workday in an enclosed environment with multiple students. We owe it to them to respect their well-being. Since, not only COVID, but also other ailments tend to spread easily through our school, please be vigilant in keeping your children home when they are experiencing symptoms of illness. If some symptoms are caused by chronic and non-contagious conditions such as allergies, please make sure that our school nurse has this documented information from your child’s doctor. Students who are sent to the nurse’s office with any types of symptoms of illness, will be sent home with their parents as soon as possible. We are in the process of changing our online reporting program from Blackbaud since that company will no longer be providing these services. The setup for the new provider has been disappointingly slow. We will let you know when this service will be available to you with instructions for accessing your child’s academic and attendance information. Meanwhile, students in Middle and Upper Schools will receive printed copies of their new class schedules. These schedules will be available on their orientation days. But they may also be picked up in the school’s office any time next week, from August 1 to August 5. Here is a repeat of our opening plans: Wednesday, August 10: Welcome Back Open House for Parents – 1:00 to 3:00 PM Thursday, August 11: Half-Day Orientations--
Monday, August 15: First Full Day for All
As you can see, Lower School students come from 8 to 11:30 on Thursday, and don’t return until Monday morning for their first full day of class. Middle Schoolers come on Thursday from 12 to 3:30, and don’t come back until Monday also. Upper School students don’t come on Thursday, but they do come on Friday from 8:30 to 12:30. Then their first full day will also be Monday, August 15. We look forward to seeing you all on Wednesday, August 10 for our Open House. Student hosts will be available to help you locate your children’s classrooms. Sincerely Pat Bennett |
