Upper School Social StudiesThe Upper School Social Studies Department creates a dynamic learning environment for students. Immersed in a wide variety of courses from the International Baccalaureate and Advanced Placement programs, students become critical and engaged thinkers, skilled at analyzing and interpreting text, and articulating their arguments using different modes of communication. |
Our Social Studies program helps students builds college-ready research, analysis and writing skills using historical studies as a base. We accomplish this by strengthening their ability to understand a given historical issue and connect it to a different historical period, or geographical area, in the process identifying causes, consequences, continuities, and changes throughout distinguishable time periods, and developing historical arguments based on evidence.
The Social Studies Department uses a wide variety of assessment methods to actively engage students in the lessons. Students learn to work with primary and secondary sources to write essays, create original political cartoons, participate in debates and class discussions, create websites, develop infographics, and utilize many other means to build their knowledge and skills, and share what they have learned with others. |
